Nearly 400,000 women receive breast implants each year, and many are picking silicone material. But in a recent report, the Food and Drug Administration warned that many women experience complications from silicone — from a hardening of the skin around the implant to ruptures, pain and infection.

WEDNESDAY, June 22 (HealthDay News) -- Silicone-gel breast implants don't last forever, with as many as half of women with the devices requiring removal within 10 years of the initial surgery, U.S. health officials said Wednesday.
Implants are removed for various reasons, including malposition, replacement and damage during surgery. Still, these are man-made products and as such are not perfect, says Toronto plastic surgeon Dr. Martin Jugenburg. “They can leak or rupture, and if that happens they will need to be replaced.”
THURSDAY, April 28 (HealthDay News) -- A small study of women with breast cancer suggests that those who have previously undergone surgery to receive breast implants face no poorer prognosis than do those without implants, despite the fact that mammograms were less accurate at picking up abnormalities in this group of women.
